My journey, at 24 years of age, from Colombo to London was my first international experience. It was undoubtedly the ‘trip of a lifetime’ and quite life changing. I have travelled extensively since, but nothing else compares. Travelling independently as we did, we had to learn to be self-sufficient and to survive in the strange and varied cultures we encountered on the Asian Overland route. Today, I feel much more a ‘citizen of the world’ and am never happier than when I am in an airport departure lounge heading off for another adventure to some exotic destination (most recently Myanmar). I also developed an interest in the history, cultures and religions of Asia which continues to the present day.​
